About Us

Peace Through Language is a research and engagement initiative focused on understanding, measuring, and transforming harmful online language into constructive, peace‑oriented communication. We design tools, corpora, and public engagement activities to help communities moderate content, foster empathy, and reduce harm. Through our ongoing collaboration, we have co‑authored the following publications.

Dr. Phoebe Teh (Phoey Lee Teh)

Reader in Social Computing

Phoey Lee Teh leads the Peace Through Language initiative, working at the intersection of computational linguistics, NLP, and social computing. Her interests include hate‑speech and deception detection, multilingual corpora design, and harm‑aware text analytics for public benefit. This project builds on her experience in corpus construction and responsible AI for safer digital communication.

Prof Cheng Chi-Bin

Chi‑Bin Cheng is a researcher whose work spans soft computing, intelligent systems, and machine‑learning–driven decision support, with publications covering fuzzy optimisation, genetic algorithms, multi‑criteria decision making, intelligent agents, supply‑chain and logistics modelling, and computational approaches to routing and scheduling. His applied research extends into areas such as cyberbullying detection, profanity analysis on social media, aviation safety assessment, and secure communication using chaotic systems, demonstrating a broad portfolio of data‑driven problem solving across technical and social contexts. He integrates computational modelling with real‑world analytics, contributing methods and systems that emphasise algorithmic rigour, operational efficiency, and practical application.
